Nice weather predicted and a day free of contractors in the house ... so Friday was a chance for a hike ... but where?
Resolution is farther in via the Davis Path or the Mt Parker Trail than I wanted to hike, but I really like Mt Resolution. I wasn't interested in the 2 mile virtual road walk on the Rocky Branch Trail to the Stairs Col trail. But it is ridable by mountain bike ...
TLV wanted her bike taken to camp; two bikes are almost as easy as one to carry as one ... so, I took my bike along with the plan to ride to RB Shelter 1 and hike Resolution....
I'm old school - my bike has toe clips. Turned out to be a good thing since I forgot my dedicated bike shoes ... hiking boots aren't great, but they did work. Not to mention the added advantage of that much less to carry. So, out to the junction via mountain bike, ditch the bike and drop down to the river to fill some water bottles.
Had to consider the time of day at this point. Got a late start ( as just about always) , so the question arose about time. Didn't help that I was tired from various other activity earlier in the week. Decided I'd head up the trail and reassess at Stairs Col.
The Stairs col was heavily hobble-brushed; it was dry but nevertheless the vegetation looked like a rain forest. Fortunately I knew the trail was there so didnt have to waste time trying to figure out whether I'd gotten off trail or not.
Made good time to the junction with the Davis Path; decided to try for at least the first ledge outlook on Resolution.
Once there, of course, it was obvious I might as well go on to the summit ( technically the summit is a little way off in the brush, but the open ledge is good enough for me :) ) .
Part of the Mt Parker trail was pretty overgrown ( seems to be a theme lately ). Footing was good, though. Once again I neglected to put my pant legs back on and got some good scratches. Some people never learn
It was getting late so I didn't linger on the summit; I didn't want to have a headlamp finish, especially since the last two miles would be by bike.
So headed back down trail, making plenty of noise as I didn't want to be delayed by either a bear or moose. A few moments of anxiety - I hid my bike a little too well. But find it I did, and made it back to the car just beating the dark. Nice!

Getting back to camp, realized I'd lost my beloved Leatherman :(
I thought maybe I'd left it on the river ( where I'd had to do a field repair of one of my boots) . So ... tired though I was, back on the bike and out to the shelter.
Joy! It wasnt on the river, but it was on the trail where I'd dropped my pack to look for my bike. Reunited with my treasured tool, I had a joyful ride back out of the woods :)
