Bear Brook has two Adirondack style shelters that I know of, one at Smith Pond and one  ... lost.

Actually, a fair number of people know where it is, but there is no trail and it is not mapped.

I hope it stays that way ...

The Lost Shelter is easy to miss, it's nestled in among the trees and you can easily walk within a hundred yards and never see it.

And even once you've been there, the woods have many similar features ... so it's easy to go right by it.

But if you find it, it's a pleasant place to stop on a cold winter day.

On this day, I crossed two bogs and did a little zigzagging before I reached it, far from the snowmobiles buzzing like flies ...

We'd just had some nice new snow so it was very quiet and beautiful walking thru the woods as the wind blew bursts of snow off the branches to be lit up by beams of sunlight.

A brief stop at the shelter for cocoa and a look at the register, and on my way before the cold began to really bite.
