Not much time to hike this weekend, but with the warm weather and clear skies today I thought I'd best get out.
Thought it might be fun to huck the long glass up South Pawtuckaway and maybe get a few shots of Portsmouth and Mt Belknap...
Parked out on Reservation Rd, took the link connector trail to the South Ridge Trail. Spikes were convenient but not really necessary. Most of the South Ridge Trail was more mud and bare ground than ice, and with care the ice could be gotten around.
It's really pretty disturbing how little snow there is on the ground. Between that and the warm temp (50 degrees maybe?) it definitely didnt seem like January. More like April...
Even on the tower, it was not cold. Two shirts, a hat & a shell was enough, didnt even need gloves .
But the wind was gusting maybe into the 40's ... certainly at least the 30's. Not cold, but too windy for the long glass, so I couldn't take the shots I had rather hoped for.
Guess I'll just have to go back again... oh darn ;)
