Wanted some elevation and some foliage. And somewhere that I didnt think I'd get trampled.
Have been wanting to redo this loop for a while, decided to give it a try.
After feeding the cats & hanging some laundry, and having to drive to the trailhead from home (ugh!) still managed to
get on trail by 8.30.
Scooting up Rt 16 I blew past the scenic stop , but I just had to turn back and catch this ...
Only a couple cars in the lot at Diana's Bath. It was warm, but the high point of the DB season is past.

Not too long before Nancy heads south for the winter, and lots of stuff coming up over the next few weeks,
so we really wanted to get in a hike this past weekend. The forecast seemed promising after Saturday.
Cardigan was nominated.
I hadn't been back since winter, so was looking forward to seeing what it looked like, and also to getting out to a couple interesting smaller peaks.
So I worked out a little bit of a changeup.
Manning -> Mowglis -> West Ridge -> Skyland -> South Ridge -> Hurricane Gap -> Clark -> Holt-Clark Cutoff -> Holt
the route typed out is almost as long as the route on the ground

Friday I did a hard hike, followed by watching a parade Saturday. Sunday I needed to do something lesser , and that wouldn't add much driving.
I really didnt want to be nodding out all day Monday.
TLV let me off the hook, praise to her!!
When she said Table Mountain, though I really wasnt very excited.
We did it a few years ago, and somehow I got it into my mind that
it wasnt that impressive.

I've been visiting North Conway for quite a few years, now. I even had the good fortune to live there for a short time once. It's always had a feeling of community that I like.
There's a strong charity component in the community, and this past weekend it was expressed in the annual touch football Mud Bowl.
Before Saturday's games there was a parade.
I'm not much of a sports-game fan. I generally prefer hiking and other less raucous activities, but this year the timing was right to visit the parade, and it was a lot of fun!
Apparently there was a TV Game Show theme ( with a strong "MUD" foundation).
The creativity and work that went into some of the floats was pretty amazing. For example, the 3 X 3 matrix of the
Muddywood Squares entry. You just dont see that kind of construction in any ordinary parade :)
Though it was probably a good idea to not have the "contestants" seated until stopped for the reviewing stand...

This story begins, as they so often do for me, with the usual plan to go North, sleep over and get up early to go hiking.
